Maui Eviction Moratorium Extended

The Governor’s Nineteenth (19th) Proclamation Relating to Wildfires was issued on December 6, 2024 and extends through February 4, 2025. The proclamation included an eviction moratorium on the island of Maui that: prohibits increase of residential rents in effect as of August 9, 2023; prohibits the commencement, continuation, or prosecution of an action to terminate any tenancy for a residential dwelling unit for failure to pay rent; prohibits the termination of holdover (month-to-month) residential tenancies unless landlord strictly affirms that the tenancy must be terminated because the unit is being sold, or when the landlord or immediate family member will occupy the unit.
